COURSE UPDATE

I am sorry to say the State has denied our request to use the double track/hiking trails. Unfortunately this denial is due to the fact that too many people still ride those sections where bikes are banned.  By allowing us to use that during a race, they feel it sends the message that it's OK to ride the hiking trails. . . which, of course, it is not.

So the race lap will be the standard mountain bike lap (including all loops) for the WEMS race.

While I realize this is disappointing to many, I ask that instead of complaining we be THANKFUL the state even allows us to hold this event on their property.  5 miles of single track is better than not being able to ride at all.  If that does not appeal to you. . .there are many other cycling events that same day, choose what does appeal to you.

Thank you for your understanding.

  1. Thankful, yes. But aren't you paying for the proper permit and isn't everyone paying their salaries. It's always an interesting dynamic. I rode out there last year and we didn't realize you could no longer ride the hiking trails. There is the one sign at the beginning - I think there just needs to be a little more awareness that those are closed.

  2. I do agree they need to sign the trail better if they don't want people riding it, and we've had that discussion with them. In terms of paying the permit, etc. . . you are right, and while I don't agree with it, I can understand their thinking. Unfortunately, they are understaffed as always, and now they have lost yet one more higher up person (who transferred to a different station), so they simply don't have the manpower to do the things we'd love to see done (better signage being one of them).
